Thanks Rebecca. It means a lot to me to get this feedback. As you might know I’m a privileged white woman trying to come to grips with our Dutch colonialism. Often not finding the words (yet).
I’m loving a very wise Dutch-Nigerian man, Mike. And I think of you often when writing stuff that’s on the edge of my perception.
Sometimes thinking that grrrr… it must read wrong looking from your black perspective. The other day, I even removed a comment I made on one of your articles. Thinking the tone might have been all wrong although the message in my head was loving.
It’s dealing with diversity. And I’m sure it’s something we all must learn if we want to live in a better world. I cannot change the past of my country. You cannot change the past of yours.
But the future will be better. And I’m so glad I can read your stories and that you see through my writing and feel the honesty behind sometimes not perfectly chosen words.
Glad to be on the path with you!
