Thanks, Kennardo. Mostly appropriation seems to be about image. Your story is clearly about power and privilege. I do have a mixed relationship with appropriation. I'm perceived white, but I'm part Asian culture. My husband is clearly black and always gets the questions where are you born? While he is born in the same European country as I am. My bonus daughter is part Nigerian, she has afro hair and hates it while I would have loved curls. My friend was once called out for appropriating, but she is Mexican. She just doesn't 'look' the part. Wouldn't it be nice if we all realized that humans have been living on this planet for 300,000 years now and we are all a bit of everything? I wish people weren't so superficial and look through an image. Often I see such small hearts in there, screaming see me, admire me, love me. I wish creative black women would be rewarded for their talents. That's the beauty of living. Creativity. And compassion. For all of us trying to live a good life on this planet. As I said, mixed feelings...
