Regeneration and Systemic Design Are Much More than Buzz Words

Okay, Tim Knowles. I’m dropping the buzz words as you call it and telling it for what it is. I’ll be dropping links as you asked me to, although I normally refrain from it in the comments. You can study, just like I did ever since my worldview changed in 2013 during the Blue Economy Summer School at the Unversity of Pècs. (the book is The Blue Economy, By Gunter Pauli. 10 Years, 100 innovations, 100 million jobs).

I studied frantically for 6 years before I found my voice last year. Now I’m telling my own stories. And doing many practical projects all around the world. I’m part of the international Blue Economy network, working closely with thinktank ZERI. Being a Blue Economy expert for the EU Commission once in a while.

I don’t give courses, by the way. You’ll have to find your own path. I do 1:1 talks with people who want to know how it can work for their specific situation. And I’m not rich or into buzz words. Here’s my professional profile.

It has nothing to do with Buzz. I’m a professional, working on aligning the economy, the ecology, and the human spirit. I do this with governments, companies, scientists, and citizens. We are a growing group of people who have heard the call of the Report to the Club of Rome in 1972: “Limits to Growth” and are designing the new ways. Qualitative Growth ways. The new economies, political structures, money structures. And we are very busy with ecosystem restoration as well. Nature-based solutions with benefits for humans and for nature. Economy and ecology.

Gaia needs to be restored for the new economies (based on synergy) to work. So there are regenerative farmers inventing their ways with permaculture or other regenerative principles. Look at the small video by Bill Mollisson and David, writing the book Permaculture Design also in the 1970s, and see how we have to look differently at energy in systems. All systems.

This is the most complete story I wrote about what we are trying to do, until now.

Systemic thinking has many scientists involved. For me, the entrance has been Fritjof Capra. Writer of The Systems View of Life.

Then there are businesses finding their ways. Not easy, but they have a mission. And they do it. I wrote about the new business models based on synergy here.

Then there are the designers. They are busy with new materials. Local, abundantly available materials such as bamboo, industrial hemp, seaweed, fungi, etc. All grown in biodiversity enhancing ways.

And then there are whole areas reinventing themselves. The smallest Canary Island El Hierro has been on it for 25+ years now. I visited them in 2016 and these are the 2 articles explaining in detail how they do it.

There are other areas. Las Gaviotas in Colombia is another one of them (lots to be found on the internet and also stories on Medium). And recently a scientist and project designer connected via LinkedIn and told me there are designing a system now in Maine, USA. I’m collaborating with projects in Greece (Meraki People), Kroatia, The Netherlands (where I’m from and live most of the time), Indonesia (Building with Nature), the Himalayas (Naturenomics), etc. There’s work done in Australia, New Zealand, and many other areas.

Hope you see by now it’s more than just buzz words, Tim. We can be found with many words. Regeneration, blue economy, systemic design, doughnut economy, urban systems scan, permaculture design, etc. And details vary depending on a person’s personal views. We are a varied bunch, getting out there in many tastes. Inspiring as many people as we can. Collaborating fiercely! Embracing diversity! There’s technology involved, but it will always be enhancing health and supporting life. And there’s an immensely strong connection with nature. Reinventing life for the human species.

If you’re interested, find your own path. With your own talents. And let’s be the wave of change together.
